Brand Yourself with Belbin
Jul 23, 2008
Ever thought of Belbin as “self-branding”? Thebe Ikalafeng, director of Brand Leadership Ltd, claims that Belbin Team Roles are in the business of positive branding... for an individual.
Addressing the Belbin Conference on 10th July, Thebe talked of focusing on the positive, and used “Brand Africa” as a case in point. Africa, he claims, has fallen victim to “continental brand effect”, when negative aspects of some parts of a continent are ascribed universally and become a vector of national image.
Personal branding, Thebe argues, is fundamentally a matter of opinion: with the right message, platform and vehicle, we can shape our “brand identity” and positively influence the way others perceive us.
On a personal and national level, he continues, we must have consistency, consciousness and confidence in our identity in order to maintain and promote it.
Brands project outside, but only successfully so if they are truly felt and understood inside.
