"The merits of a team should never be assessed without first considering its purpose."

Dr Meredith Belbin

Whenever we work with a team it is important to fully understand it. Its purpose; its strengths and weaknesses; its structure… The more we can find out in the initial stages, the greater the chance of unearthing the real reason why we have been asked for guidance.

Belbin Team Conversation Cards is a set of ‘must ask’ questions to help get the conversation started with your team.

This set of questions has come about from asking a group of Belbin Accredited practitioners for their thoughts and insights. It isn’t an exhaustive list, but we believe we have covered the ‘must ask’ questions. We’ve included some blank cards for you to add your own.

These cards can be used in a myriad of ways – with the manager on a 1:1 basis, or with the team as a whole. You can pre-select the questions to ask, or the manager/team can decide which ones are most relevant. You can decide on a particular order or see how the conversations flow. It is unlikely you would use all the cards in one session, so as a top tip – be a little selective.
